Worplesdon, St Mary

Three ringers from Worplesdon have so far been discovered, one is known only by his first initial and surname, with no indication of with which unit he served. The other two are listed on the Central Council Roll of Honour, so are listed as they have been identified there.

  • Boy 2nd Class Herbert James Deacon † died 19 September 1918 — HMS Powerful [forenames added from his service record his death date, and the fact he is buried in Worplesdon churchyard suggests he died in the UK, possibly of the Spanish flu. He was listed as H Deakin in the original Central Council Roll of Honour]
  • Private Frederick Arthur Licence † killed 31 July 1918 — 2nd Battalion, Essex Regiment
  • H Goulding

Information about ringing at Worplesdon today can be found via the Guildford Diocesan Guild website.
